About me…

Hello. My name is Jamie Lahey. I grew up in Vestal, New York. I attended Vestal Senior High School and graduated in 1999. I then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to continue my education. I attended Cincinnati Christian University and graduated in the spring of 2004 with my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. I am currently enrolled in a graduate program at Oswego State University. I am working on my master’s in initial certification for elementary children, grades 1 through 6. I will finish my program and receive my masters and my New York state certification in the winter of 2009.

I got married in 2002, and once I received my Bachelor’s degree in 2004 my husband and I relocated to Baldwinsville, New York for his job. I was going to continue my college education in psychology, but I had many experiences that led me to change careers and pursue the field of education.

My Teaching Philosophy…

I believe that learning is a lifelong process. It starts at the moment you are born and continues over the course of your life. Learning is made up of various processes and experiences. I believe that becoming and educator is a privilege. As an educator, you get to create these experiences for your students and take part in their learning. To me, this is a part of teaching. You are helping your students learn in a way that they will retain the knowledge for the rest of their lives. This is also called authentic learning. Authentic learning combines various techniques to engage students and help them become and active part of the learning process.

Purpose…

The purpose of this portfolio is to create a meaningful collection of artifacts that will showcase my work. It will show my strengths and weaknesses and also progress that I have made.
